The dance community is mourning the loss of Ardell Stone, beloved mother, nana, teacher, mentor, and friend, who passed away on June 6, 2026, at the age of 85. Her passing marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in the lives of countless students, families, and community members whose paths were forever shaped by her passion for dance and commitment to excellence.
For more than five decades, Ardell devoted herself to the art of dance through the Ardell Stone School of Dancing, which she founded 54 years ago. What began as a dance studio grew into a cherished institution where generations of students learned not only technique and performance skills but also discipline, confidence, perseverance, and friendship. For many, the studio became a second home and a place where lifelong memories were made.
Known for her high expectations and strong work ethic, Ardell challenged her students to reach their fullest potential. While she was often described as a tough instructor, those who knew her understood that her standards were rooted in genuine care and a desire to see every dancer succeed. She took great pride in her students’ accomplishments and celebrated their growth both on and off the stage.
One of Ardell’s greatest joys was teaching alongside her daughter, Lynn, for 29 years. Together, they nurtured generations of dancers and upheld a tradition of excellence that became synonymous with the studio’s reputation. Their dedication was recognized in 2011 when the Ardell Stone School of Dancing received the honor of Small Business of the Year.
Beyond dance, Ardell was a devoted mother to Lynn, Rick, and Bill, and a proud nana to Tyler, Taylor, and Alex. A lifelong member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church, she generously served her community through various ministries, including the Backpack Ministry.
Though her final curtain call has come, Ardell Stone’s legacy will live on through the countless lives she inspired, the dance family she created, and the enduring lessons she shared with generations.
Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
